CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
A teenager died after an overnight shooting in west Charlotte, police said.
Police said Khalil Malik Cousart, 13, was shot and killed.
Homicide Unit detectives arrested Damien Wright, 16, in connection with the shooting.
Police said they were called out to the intersection of Tuckaseegee Road and Parkway Avenue just after 1 a.m. Tuesday. Investigators were on the scene for several hours Tuesday morning.
Channel 9 has learned that police interviewed a woman who was driving in the area, when she was flagged down by a man with that teenager. Police said the woman pulled over and tried to help and then called police.
When police responded, they said they found the teen on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medic rushed the teen to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said Wright and Cousart knew each other and it was not a random act.

Ms. Melodie (a/k/a Romona Parker) of Boogie Down Productions fame has been confirmed dead this afternoon. Anonymous sources confirmed the tragic news to TheUrbanDaily.com, although the cause and details are still unknown.
In addition to releasing 1989′s Diva on Jive/Zomba Records, Melodie, a Brooklyn, New York native, appeared on “Self Destruction” from the Stop The Violence Movement. She also appeared on Queen Latifah’s hit “Ladies First.” A longtime affiliate of B.D.P., Melodie was also the first wife of the group’s front-man, KRS-One. When the pair split in the early 1990s, Melodie stepped away from Hip Hop, as Boogie Down Productions spawned the solo careers of KRS, D-Nice and others.
Melodie was mentioned in Nas’ 2006 song “Where Are They Now?” as the Queens, New York emcee stated, “I hope she packin’ a bankroll.”
Melodie’s passing comes less than two weeks after another late 1980s alum, KMG from Above The Law, also died.

Lil Wayne is being investigated for assault for the second time in a month.
According to TMZ, Weezy was reportedly skateboarding with his crew when a fan named Alfredo Marino approached the rapper and asked to take a photograph. After Wayne declined, he returned to his car and tried to slyly snap a picture. Only shortly after, Wayne approached the vehicle with his crew and said, “Don’t you know all it takes is a word and these motherf**kers are going to f**k you up?”
Marino claims that he was then hit in the back of the head with a skateboard, knocking him down and drawing blood. He says that he suffered a concussion and vertigo.
“My client will enforce all of his rights under the law and all individuals responsible for this outrageous incident will be blamed for the damages that my client has suffered and continues to suffer,” said his lawyer, Craig Chisvin.
Last month, a photographer filed a police report in Miami, Florida for a similar incident. Police are currently investigating Marino’s claims.
